Where Do Students Study?
The three universities in Liverpool are the University of Liverpool (UoL), Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and Liverpool Hope University. They have campuses located in the city centre and in the south of the city. LSH also supports students studying at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA).

Where Do Students Live?
L1, L2, L3 – City Centre
Properties in these postcodes charge the highest rents but command a higher price. Properties here have the convenience of being close to the Universities’ campuses. Properties in the city are in high demand and are usually 1 or 2 bedroom flats and large city developments.
L6 & L7 – Kensington Fields
Within 10 minutes walking distance to University. This area has felt the benefits of regeneration and is popular with groups of students wanting to live close to University and the city centre. The area is mostly traditional terraced housing and houses a mix of students and residents.
L8 – Toxteth
This area of the city houses some of the finest Georgian terraces in the country, referred to locally as the Georgian Quarter. Accommodation for students in this area is limited and generally comprises of large shared dwellings and self-contained flats. The Catherine Street/Falkner Street area is popular with students wishing to live in traditional housing within close proximity to the city centre.
L15 – Smithdown Road/Wavertree
This area is a short bus ride to the city centre and the main corridor of Smithdown Road has a high concentration of student properties, which tend to be traditional terraced houses. There is an abundance of shared dwellings but a limited number of self-contained one and two bedroom flats. Transport links to the city centre and out of town campuses are excellent and there are plenty of local amenities. Rent levels in this area are significantly lower in comparison with the city centre.
L17 – Aigburth
Some parts of Aigburth are within walking distance to LJMU IM Marsh campus and there is a bus from Aigburth Vale to Liverpool Hope University in Childwall. Lark Lane in this area has lots of cafes, restaurants and eclectic shops, with Sefton Park nearby. There are good transport links to the city centre, taking about 15-20 minutes by bus.
L18 – Allerton/Penny Lane/Mossley Hill
This area is close to Smithdown Road and there is a significant student community in this area. There are excellent local amenities including shops, cafes and bars all within close proximity to the University of Liverpool halls of residence. LJMU IM Marsh Campus is within walking distance and Liverpool Hope University in Childwall is a short bus ride.
